Join artist-in-residence Jaewoo Kang in the first half of a two-part Intergenerational Eco-Fashion Workshop in person at Griffin Art Projects’ Residency Space, presented in conjunction with the upcoming Fall exhibition project at Griffin, SHIFT: Fashion, Form & Textile which features work at the intersection of contemporary art, textiles and fashion through Canadian and international artists.

This first workshop will be an imaginative exercise, delving into post-human and inter-species experiences as a way to speculate how our human bodies will evolve and devolve in the next 100 years. We will be referencing selected extracts from Vampyroteuthis Infernalis by Louis Bec and Vilém Flusser, and Strange Natures by Nicole Seymour.

Limit of five participants. To register, email intern@griffinartprojects.ca with the subject line: Intergenerational Eco-fashion Workshop with Jaewoo Kang.

This is one workshop spanning two days, participants MUST BE ABLE TO ATTEND BOTH DAYS, July 8 and 15 at 12 noon.

Jaewoo Kang was born in Busan, Korea, and currently lives and works on the stolen and unceded land of səl̓ilwətaɁɬtəməxw (Tsleil-Waututh), Skwxwú7mesh-ulh Temíx̱w (Squamish), šxwməθkwəy̓ əmaɁɬ təməxw (Musqueam) Nations. His training in art started with visual art, which allowed him to be an interdisciplinary artist. A major theme for him is queer eroticism and how intimate moments with others can allow the self to have an introspective experience. In 2020, he received Canada Council and BC Arts Council grants to make his first animated short, Lover, Come Back to Me, which is in post-production at the moment.
