Join Griffin Art Projects and The Contemporary Art Society of Vancouver in conversation with guest curator Patrik Andersson and collector Dr. Zenon Trylowsky to highlight the history and evolution of the Trylowsky collection. This discussion, hosted live over Zoom, is presented in conjunction with Griffin’s current exhibition Teeth, Loan and Trust Company, Consolidated: The Trylowsky Collection, on view from September 24 – December 11, 2021.

Building on one of Griffin Art Project’s mandates to examine new currents in contemporary collecting practices, Conversations on Collecting is an ongoing series that considers the methodologies, thematics and narratives that shape collecting practices in Vancouver, Canada and beyond.

Zenon Trylowsky was born in Edmonton, Alberta. He moved to Vancouver with his family after high school and attended UBC where he received a degree in Zoology and then studied dentistry. Long interested in modern art, architecture, and music, Dr. Trylowsky started a collaboration with his friend, Patrik Andersson, to have gallery events at his own dental office, a collaboration which became the Trylowsky Gallery.

Patrik Andersson is Associate Professor in the Audain Faculty of Art at Emily Carr University of Art & Design and a freelance art critic and curator. Andersson received a PhD in Art History from the University of British Columbia, with a dissertation on the post-war reception of Marcel Duchamp's work. He has curated exhibitions locally and internationally since the late 1980s and operates Trapp Projects, an independent curatorial and publishing platform founded in 1997 (www.trappprojects.com).

The Contemporary Art Society of Vancouver is a registered charitable organization founded in 1977. We promote the understanding and appreciation of contemporary art by hosting a regular schedule of members-only events featuring prominent artists, curators, critics and collectors from around the world.
